What is the difference between Innovation and Invention? Think for a moment, because it’s the difference that makes the difference.
The short answer? Innovation, it is generally agreed, whether your world view flows to the right or left, whether humanist or technocrat, is the force of the ideas that will save us from irrelevancy, from business to research, from education to future studies. The public sector and private, whether city government or corporate governance create new values and prosperity through the elemental force we call innovation.
But is the dream of the power of ubiquitous innovation only a dream? Are there alternative methods to create innovation? Has the time come to re-think, to re-create this phenomenon we know as innovation? At Quattroporte, we think so, and we strongly believe that unfolding the nuanced differences between innovation and invention is the first step towards creating the difference that will make the difference.
Let me ask you: How can the creation and development of new values become more than empty rhetoric or slogans for political posters? How will we work across disciplines to insure that new value creation is not only relevant in the here and now, but can be meaningfully applied to encourage desirable future scenarios? That is the essential question, isn’t it?
